Crazy Crayons

Standard Addition

An unusual "abstract still life" print of coloured crayons inside a glass tumbler.

A local gallery was having the theme of "Colours" for its next event.
As the weather was not as its best, I decided to see what could be produced from the comfort of home with whatever I could find in the house and see if I could design a composition suitable to be submitted for acceptance for their event.

Using a box of coloured crayons, an old glass tumbler and a black travel blanket set up, I took several shots at different focal points then focus stacked them together to help get a sharper image.

Again with photography software, i further enhanced the image with a distorted effect at the top of the crayons and using a "brush effect" added the powdery exploding colours that came out of the top of the crayons which are then tumbling down to the floor.

Adding a slightly faint mottled effect overlay over the entire image helped give it an old painterly feel.

To my delight, the print got accepted to the gallery (Halifax Open Gallery) for its Oct/Nov 2024 "Colours" exhibition.

For the exhibition, the print is A3 in size, inside an A2 frame.I have it mounted in a black frame with a grey mount that helps to compliment the brighter colours of the crayons.

Paper: Giclee Canson Baryta archival paper (310gsm).

Date: 01/09/2024

Location: Home Studio Set

Photographer: David Frost
